How to make hot chocolate bombs is a popular internet search this season (maybe it’s because we’re all cooped up inside looking for something to do) and this delicious little treat has quickly taken over the internet! Have you seen people selling them?! I saw $20 for a four pack of Hot Cocoa Bombs on Facebook! I wanted to give these hot cocoa bombs a try myself, but in true Baseball Mom fashion, I obviously had to make Baseball Hot Chocolate Bombs instead of the regular kind and see if I could turn this trendy treat into something even more fun for my husband’s baseball team. Turns out…these aren’t “that” hard to make and they turned out pretty dag-gone cute if you ask me! Let’s jump right in…
How to Make Baseball Hot Chocolate Bombs
To make these cute little Baseball Hot Chocolate Bombs you’ll need the following:
- Silicone mold (linked)
- White Chocolate
- Red Chocolate (can get from local craft stores)
- Microwave Safe Dish to melt
- Squeeze bottle
- Hot Cocoa Mix
- Mini Marshmallows
You start by preparing your white chocolate. In a microwave safe dish, melt your white chocolate at 30 second to one minute increments, stirring well in between. Once melted, use a spoon to line the silicone mold with a healthy lining of chocolate. Once thoroughly coated, place in the freezer to let harden for 15-20 minutes.
Once hardened, check to ensure the chocolate is thick enough. If it’s too thin, repeat and add an additional layer of chocolate and place back in freezer. If they’re thick enough after the first coat, pull out of the freezer and pop the half circles out of the molds. In half of your half circles, dump about 1/3 package of hot cocoa mix into the chocolate sphere. Trust me, these are pretty sweet so only about 1/3 of a package is needed. Then add mini marshmallows or other treats as desired on top.
Next step is to take a little of your white chocolate and melt it and set aside. This will be used when putting the spheres together.
You’ll also want to take a clean spare plate and heat up in the microwave for 60 seconds or so. Pull from the microwave and take ONE side of your chocolate sphere and place on the hot plate to melt the rim, then place on top of the other sphere (that’s holding the hot cocoa and marshmallows) and with clean hands, gently use the additional white chocolate to fill in any gaps around the edges of the “bomb”. Do you best to make it smooth.
Repeat these steps until you’ve created all of your bombs.
Finally, in your Wilton Squeeze bottle, melt the red chocolate. Don’t get the chocolate too hot because you don’t want it to melt your chocolate bombs. Using the red chocolate, draw baseball lines on the bombs and then set in the fridge until ready to serve.
I only lined the top parts of my cocoa bombs with the red chocolate lines, but once the tops dry, you could flip them over and do the bottoms as well if you like. It’s easiest to do the red lines by placing the bombs into the mold so that they don’t move while you’re drawing on them.
We used these as Christmas gifts for our baseball team. So I bought Dollar Store mugs in black for the kids, added their numbers in permanent white vinyl, and then I placed a Baseball Cocoa Bomb in each mug, added a peppermint spoon, and then wrapped it in cellophane and tied off with a ribbon.
Once ready to serve, you can either pour hot milk over top of the bomb or you can add the bomb to hot milk and watch it do its thing…it’s pretty cool to see!
These little baseball treats take a little finesse, but once you get the hang of it they’re really easy to make and SO MUCH FUN! We can’t wait to hand these out to the baseball kids this weekend!
